Life-Sized Bull

Sand has a fascination for me. Bastarrika wrote on his Facebook page that no matter how you look at it, if you are willing to learn, it will always have something to teach you. A staggering number of sand grains must cooperate and work together in order to create anything amazing.

This most amazing sand bull has extraordinarily lifelike facial features, a texture to the coat, and magnificent horns. Beachgoers pass by in awe, wondering how such a talent is discovered and then developed.

Crocodile

The majority of these realistic constructions are made by hand by Bastarrika. He does use additional tools, such as brushes, sticks, and toothpicks, to add some of the finishing touches that give each painting its wonderful appearance.

Additional decorations and add-ons, like horns and nails, are used to make the animals more lifelike. The impressive detail and intimidating size of this enormous crocodile have many onlookers in awe.

The dog

Bastarrika appears to have a particular soft spot for dogs. Man’s best friend may have been able to stay still long enough to make a sculpture, but he much prefers to have his compatible spirit animal roam freely on the sand as he captures the soul of each in sand and color.

A tribute to the well-known Rufo monument in Oviedo, Spain, is the dog Rufo. Its presence in Oviedo and along the shoreline aims to increase public awareness of abandoned animals all over the world and inspire people to help in any way they can.

The other Dog

Although Bastarrika is aware that his creations aren’t as long-lasting as those made of other materials, that doesn’t diminish how much he enjoys creating them. He gives each sculpture new life despite its short lifespan.

The beaches of northern Spain are covered with finished goods scattered throughout various areas. Distance is no longer an obstacle thanks to social media, and more and more people are discovering this unique artist and his sculptures.

Elephant

Bastarrika’s larger portions are where its true beauty can be found. Even though it is no less intricate than some of his smaller sculptures, not every artist would dedicate themselves to such a massive undertaking, especially when working with an elemental substance.

This magnificent elephant is peacefully dozing off near Bastarrika’s Basque home. He worked on it for almost two days. The enormous beasts we are accustomed to and adore have a happy grin and rough, wrinkled skin similar to this one.

Horse

The Spanish artist claims that his transition from the ordinary to the remarkable began in 2010, while he was playing on the beach with his daughters. His hands were moving with a “other-worldly” fluidity when he asked him to create a sand mermaid for them.

The sculptures of his daughters’ favorite animals and fantastical creatures were in high demand after they first saw them. Every single component of Bastarrika’s horse, from the mane to the tail, is flawless.

Sea turtle

Bastarrika finds the spot where his creative inspiration first comes to him. In front of a scene that includes picturesque beach areas, tidal pools, and cement platforms, he gathers sand, moistens it, and then begins to carve.

Fluid hands expertly carve fantastical creatures out of wet sand. Bastarrika gathers decorations for each sculpture he creates, such as sticks, stones, beach glass, and natural paint, to enhance its appearance.

Shark

Due to the development of social media, Bastarrika is now able to share his works with the rest of the world. His loyal fan base, which crosses generations and borders, has grown as a result of his consistent sharing of his work on Facebook and Instagram.
